Summary | Published in February 2005 Privatization on state-owned enterprise is one of the major financial policies in Taiwan. In spite of the important role they had played in the economic development history of Taiwan and the glorious experience they had endured, state-owned enterprises must take some actions to meet the rapid change of the operational environment. Privatization is one of the important public policies supported by most of the people, and regarded as an inevitable way to improve the competitiveness and operational performance of state-owned enterprises. The comparison of operational performance before and after privatization is a crucial topic, not only in Taiwan but also around the world. Many studies have already showed that mostly stated-owned enterprises could significantly improve their performance after privatization. However, there are some examples can not support this conclusion under some specific circumstances. Based on the present study, some important findings concerning the privatization of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation are summarized as follows: 1. Profitability has not changed significantly. 2. Operational performance has been raised. 3. Institutional solvency has been set up. 4. Financial conditions are improved significantly. 5. Cash flow ratio dropped. 6. Production efficiency has not changed significantly. |
