Summary
With the gradual establishment of domestic cycling routes, domestic and international tourists are drawn to use their bikes to cycle around the island via multiple and interconnected routes for leisure, tourism, and travel activities, hence bike travel safety is dependent on the cycling route’s service and quality, as well as pedestrians’ intent to use. To better understand bike accident situations along domestic cycling routes, this project focuses on the establishment of round-island cycling, as well as connected route-related bike accident analysis and improvement strategy formulation, with the goal of improving bike riding safety.
In this project, a review of major literature provided insight into domestic and foreign bike accident analysis focuses and platform functions. Bike accident comparison indicators were developed, and two seminars with experts and scholars were held to collect recommendations from the respective units for platform design and use, which were then sent back to the bike route network accident analysis platform developed by this project. Domestic road traffic accident data from the National Police Agency, as well as maps of the domestic bike routes, were also collected. Spatial superposition was employed to ascertain the scope and subjects of the research. Additionally, during the project implementation period, accident-prone locations (10 in 2022 and 20 in 2023) were selected to conduct collision diagram drawing analysis and joint investigations with experts and scholars. This will help understand bike accident patterns commonly seen along domestic cycling routes, as well as develop improvement strategies.
Finally, the analysis findings were compiled into an analysis report for a specific chapter of this project. The cycling route-related bike accident analysis and improvement strategies were developed, which were provided to management agencies for reference and application in future improvement efforts.
