Summary Currently the reviewing units and consultant firms confront a critical issue while carring out Traffic Impact Assessment. That is some parameters used during the process of TIA analysis must be from objective and credible reference reports. However, those parameters may be available but are from different reports published by diverse public sectors. It is very difficult for users to quote those parameters. Therefore we develope an information system with spatial and attribute database through the integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies. The TIA GIS will be quite beneficial while planning development projects and reviewing cases.

There are three major issues regarding to combining TIA process into GIS--standardization, spatialization and automation. The objectives of the study are to establish data format and standardized process, and to build up spatial data display and attribute data analysis of five major databases for TIA. Besides, related calculation parameters of trip and parking characteristics are established for estimating derived traffic volumes and impact levels. These would be quite useful while reviewing the development case of similar areas or types.

In this study, we proposethree system platforms: the single board system, the Web GIS system and the PDA system. We improve the spatial data analysis and display and establish the mechanism for database update in order to integrate the TIA reviewing process and the Geographic Information System.
