| Summary | This research aims to discuss what traffic management strategies to implement and which traffic management facilities to establish at the intersections for bicyclists in various riding environments under current traffic environment, so as to enhance traffic efficiency and safety at the same time. In particular, it focuses on handling signalized intersections, including types of establishment of bicycle crossings, the waiting space for bicycles and the establishment of signal lights. By analyzing existing design methods and current status of facilities, conducting survey on public opinion and interview with experts, and reviewing accident characteristics, the design criteria for bicycle crossings and bicycle signal lights are proposed to enhance the efficiency and safety of bicycle crossings. Meanwhile, the research discusses the possibility of providing bicyclists with Vulnerable Individual Protection Services (VIPS) on“hazard prevention” and “lowering accidents” in the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), while maximizing the transportation efficiency of bicycles in the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) |
