Summary In order to improve domestic industry competitiveness and strengthen logistic services, this study planned and developed an intelligent fleet resource management system (IFRMS) for commercial vehicles. The IFRMS can assist freight carriers, 3PLs and other related industries to improve their fleet routing and scheduling efficiency, and to enhance their customer service quality. Moreover, applying this system can also help to control their fuel consumption and to reduce air pollutant emissions. In summary, the development of the intelligent commercial vehicle transportation can be an important contribution to our nation’s mission on sustainable development.

This study is on the second stage of a three-year project, mainly continuing the IFRMS research and one more step to demonstrate its function capability. Following the first year study results, this study focuses on the five subsystems development in the IFRMS, i.e. processing and tracking system, vehicle routing system, vehicles scheduling and dispatching system, automatic vehicle monitoring system and management information system. Besides system development, this year the study also conducts a system approval plan to demonstrate its functional capability and to measure its possible application benefit. Volunteer motor carriers are invited to join this test. Further function improvement suggestions are expected to be collected and they will be followed in the third stage of system modification.
