Summary | Recently, Taiwan Railway (TR) Sharon branch line has commenced to operate between TR and Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) Tainan Stations. The travel time is reduced by 50% when compared to bus service, demonstrating that the seamless connection between two railway systems could significantly enhance the performance of the entire railway network. Many people wonder whether we can reduce more negative effects, such as travel time and delays of travelers, caused by uncertainties while using TR as a feeder service of THSR.
The huge construction cost but low passenger usage of TR Sharon branch line implies that it may not be the most appropriate feeder system between THSR and TR stations. The determination of this should take into account a seamless public transportation system. For those who want to shuttle to and from THSRC station by a convenient and rapid feeder service, we have to take into account a seamless public transportation system to meet such requests. Several goals were achieved in this research. We analyzed the current situation of feeder services between THSR and TR stations and clarified the subjects that needed to be studied further, while statistics of distributions of mode and interchange frequency of passengers of TR and THSR were also collected. The results of that research could be set as the foundations of feeder service plans of TRA and THSRC in the future. At last, we classified all THSR stations into 3 categories and proposed a suggestion for using public transport systems as feeder services of THSR. The result of this study could be further extended for future planning of seamless transfer services between the two railway systems. |
