| Summary | The regulations on the trucking and truck leasing industries have far-reaching influence on the businesses, regulatory monitoring, market control and industry development. Due to many business and environmental changes in the freight transportation market, there are growing pressures for trucking firms to reduce operating cost and providing more services. Thus, the current regulations and administration rules can no longer provide sufficient and proper guidance to the effective development of the trucking and freight industries as can be observed from many conflicting phenomena while implementing current regulating rules on the freight market which have deterred its operations and development according to economic principles. To face the future domestic and international environmental changes and trends, this research will investigate on the following issues: (1) examine current industry policies and trends regarding the trucking and truck leasing firms; (2) check regulation inventory relating to trucking industry; (3) review regulations on economic behavior and assess their impacts on the current industry practices to layout key issues and challenges regarding the effective development of trucking industry; (4) define clear future directions for industry development and propose preliminary recommendations for the renewal of economic regulations governing the trucking and truck leasing industries. |
