Summary The Institute of Transportation (IOT) launched the “National Traffic Information Center” web service in November 2004. Until now, the IOT has assisted 23 city/county governments in Taiwan to join the real-time traffic information on-line reporting system. The real-time traffic information sources include traffic accident information reported by the Police Bureaus, road construction information reported by the Public Works Bureaus and Economic Development Bureaus, and the traffic signal failure and traffic jam conditions reported by the Transportation Bureaus. In addition, the “National Traffic Information Center” also integrates the traffic information from the National Expressway Bureau and Directorate General of Highways to make the information more comprehensive.

The IOT is implementing this project to keep the “National Traffic Information Center” working and extension. The purpose of this project is to supply users with more comprehensive real-time traffic information by operating the “National Traffic Information Center”, maintaining RDS-TMC, extending the function of website, collecting the data of GPS vehicles, updating the database, and dealing the process of check and control.
