Summary Taking two days off per week has motivated people to go on more and more recreation activities, and therefore, transportation system has crucial effects on the development of a good recreation system. This project is based on the five projects conducted by the IOT from 1994 to 1998, entitled ¡§An Overall Transportation System Planning for the Districts in Taiwan Area, Taiwan Northern Area, Taiwan Central Area, Taiwan Eastern Area¡¨, respectively. Meanwhile the project integrates the original information inquiry system and establishes this Web-Based GIS System. Hereafter people can inquire the transportation information of the recreation districts via Internet to arrange their journey in advance.

The original system adopts image file to display the maps that induce slow transmitting speed. In order to expedite the display efficiency, the system adopts the Network-Centric GIS to deal with each layer of geographic data in the form of vector structure, and transmits these data to the client users by vector pattern. Thus it will speed up the transmitting efficiency and the accuracy. As to the maintenance of the system, the project sets up the feedback mechanism, which requires the maintaining client users to update the data directly through Internet and transmits updated data back to the server. It will effectively handle the timing of updating work and make the system more reliable.

The features of the system are as below:

(3)Setting up a data updating mechanism through Internet.
