| Summary | Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) designed in type-C Rights of Way (ROW) may arise many conflicts with pedestrians and vehicles in traffic. Problems of road engineering, traffic engineering, traffic education, and traffic enforcement will be derived from those conflicts. The two systems are new to Taiwanese, and the operation characteristics are different from MRT and Bus systems. Because people in Taiwan do not understand how to walk/drive with the two systems, there will arise some problems, such as safety and violation. Based on the concept of “Prevent is more important than cure”, it is necessary to educate people in advance to help them realize what LRT & BRT are and how to observe the rules. After deploying the systems, traffic enforcement will clamp down the violators. This study proposes the strategies of education and enforcement after deploying the systems in order to ensure traffic safety and to reduce the accidents occurred with LRT/BRT. |
