Summary

In recent years, public transportation is one of policy which the government continues to encourage and promote. Buses account for a large part of our daily life. However, Passenger taking bus often feels like being packed like sardines in peak. That influenced passengers’ intention of taking bus. Because of this problem, previous studies suggest implementing shuttle bus; nevertheless, most studies didn’t illustrate where should implement. The aim of this research is to create optimize operation mode for city bus. Providing short-turning service to improve service level.
The research used smart card data and Route information provided by Public Transport Data eXchange (PTX) to generate operation mode for city bus. We proposed a method that combines the route overlap rate and the limit of route length, focused on low route overlap rate and high demand routes. Result shows that it can reduce the complexity of the operation, finding suitable operation zone for city bus route.
