Title The Planning and Design of the Fixed Routes Barrier-free Public Transportation Service
Dept Transportation Safety Division
Year 1996
Summary

Recently, people are more concerned with the transportation problems for people with disabilities. One of the main purposes of this study is to define the factors and principles for designing service routes for fixed route barrier-free public transportation. The special service routes must satisfy the requirements for people with disabilities as much as possible. By collecting the regulations for equipment requirements defined by other countries, the study is also trying to help ROC to define her necessary regulations. Considering both the operating experience in other countries and the true environment in ROC, many other important issues have also been discussed extensively in this study. Those issues include government subsidy policy, equipment purchasing procedure, equipment maintenance, equipment inspection, service evaluation, and marking strategies. It is hoped that all information provided by this study can be used as good references for promoting the policy of barrier-free public transportation service.
