Summary

     This study reviewed relevant domestic and foreign literature, analyzing the circumstances of elderly people involved in accidents. A preliminary discussion of traffic safety risks and important issues in traffic safety shortcomings in regards to elderly people in Taiwan was carried out. These risks and issues can be summarized as "Traditional traffic safety improvement can only find
improvement methods for accidents, but it is difficult to discover problems and prevent them in advance", "Elderly people's psychological functions are degraded, and the risk of accidents and serious injuries increases", "Elderly people using private transportation modes harm others and are harmed by others", "The risk of collisions involving elderly people is increasing due to
violations by road users", "Driver's license management is based on age without considering the individual differences of aging", "The accidents of elderly people mostly happened at intersections", "Public transport service standards still need to be improved" and "Incomplete survey data on the traffic behavior of the elderly affects the quality of policy planning and implementation."
      This study's elderly-friendly transportation strategy can be summarized as "Establishing methods for systematically controlling risk improvement", "Shaping traffic safety awareness and culture", "Reducing the risk of transportation for elderly people's activities", "Strengthening intersection and pedestrian infrastructure", "Completing survey data of traffic behavior and activity needs". This can serve as a reference for the implementation of cooperative research projects in 2021.The proposed work items for the "research topics and key points" for subsequent cooperative research projects includes reviewing domestic and foreign elderly-friendly transportation policies, the problems faced by the elderly in the transportation environment in Taiwan, and proposing age-friendly transportation policies, long-term strategies, action plans and observation indicators.
