Title Reviewing the inter-city transportation development of Taiwan high-speed rail decade
Dept Transportation Planning and Land Transport Division
Year 2019
Month 6
Price 0
Summary Because of the rapid changes in the development of transportation in Taiwan, we published the monograph "Inter-City Transportation Observation Report - 10 Years of Inter-city Transportation in Taiwan" (No. 1) in 2005 to consolidate the overall transportation development and changes in Taiwan. It has been more than 10 years since the publication of that special issue, and since the high-speed railway began in 2007, many major traffic constructions and developments in the inter-city transportation system of Taiwan have taken place. Therefore, this project was initiated to carry out a series of wide-ranging reviews.
This report summarizes the evolution and major policies of the railway, highway, aviation and marine transportation systems and their impacts on on the development of domestic inter-city transportation over the past 10 years since the opening of the high-speed railway. Because this report emphasizes the development of domestic intercity transportation, the transportation system (such as: MRT, light rail, urban passenger transportation, etc.) in the metropolitan area is not included in the road and track sections. Both air and maritime transport are based on domestic shipping. This report content contains:
     1. Review of major construction and important promotion plans for railway, highway, aviation and marine transportation systems, including the high-speed rail operation, completion of Hualien-Taitung Railway Electrification, Freeway No. 5 and Freeway No. 6 , etc.
     2. Operational overview and traffic trends of the railway, highway, aviation and marine transportation systems for nearly ten years, bExploration of the impact of the intercity transport system since the opening of the high-speed railway in 2007, such as domestic western routes ceasing operation, functional positioning of the conventional railway in the western corridor gradually changing from long-distance inter-city transportation to medium-to-short-distance regional railways, and developments in commuting and transportation in the metropolitan areas.
