Title Typical Examples for Road and Traffic Engineering Design in Mixed-Traffic Situation(2/4)
Dept Transportation Safety Division
Year 2019
Month 12
Price 340
Summary

Mixed traffic flow is a primary type of traffic flow in Taiwan. This study offers suggestions and strategies for improvement. To enhance road safety in mixed traffic flows. In addition, the current domestic traffic engineering design reference tools make it hard to propose improvement plans for specific types of traffic accident at intersections. To improve that, this study develops typical examples to improve the traffic engineering design at intersections with certain types of accidents, which can be directly appled at those intersections. The final goal is to draw up typical examples to improve the traffic engineering design at all types of intersections.

This study is a 4-year plan. In year 1 (2017) it explored design conditions of left-turn types and proposed design principles). In the second year, the study reviewed previous research and relevant literature including accident analysis, traffic safety improvement strategies, new improved measures, etc. Then, verify the results of previous research projects. This study investigated the intersections of previous research and analysed the before-after change of accident and conflict, and explored the outcomes of the improvement measures taken. Finally, improvement strategies forright-angle and rear-end collision type accidents are given as well as design examples to complement the design examples of accident type of through with right and sideswipe at intersections
