Title Studies on International Maritime Conventions (3)—a Draft of Revised ROC Rules for Loading and Stowage of Grain in Bulk Ships
Dept Transportation Operations and Management Division
Year 1996
Summary

The ROC Rules for Loading and Stowage of Grain in Bulk Ships was promulgated in September 1976, and was revised in 1980 and 1984 respectively. No further modification has been done since then. The IMO has adopted the International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain in Bulk, which came into force on 1 January 1994. The new Code has revised the existing rules to some extent. This study, therefore, aims to revise the ROC Rules in accordance with the IMO Code in order to cope with the changes in international rules and shipping practices. The major changes are: (1) the division of “filled compartment” into “trimmed” and “untrimmed”, (2) the modification of relevant rules because of the above change; (3) the modification of stability requirements and fittings, etc. because of the change of shipping practices.
