| Summary | In recent years, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has been committed to the improvement of barrier-free facilities in various public transport systems, such as Taiwan Rail, Taiwan High Speed Rail, and the North Metropolitan Rapid Transit System. These services all have relatively complete barrier-free facilities to meet the needs of the elderly as well as physically and mentally handicapped passengers. However, there is still room for improvement in road passenger transport and urban public transport. With the exception of Taipei City and Taichung City, the supply of low-floor buses or universal designbuses in some counties and cities is insufficient to provide barrier-free public transport services. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to consolidate information on low-floor buses throughout the country to better understand the gap between supply and demand. In addition, the reasons for the lack of low-floor buses in various counties and cities were analyzed in order to develop the objectives, schedule, and strategy for the improvement and promotion of future low-floor bus services. |
