| Summary | To better understand the severity of motorcycle accident injuries, and to plan a traffic accident data collection system, two pieces of research were conducted as follows. Based on the results of a pilot study exploring risk factors and injury severity in motorcycle crashes, a nationwide sample was designed to increase the external validity of the study. Motorcycle crash information was collected via questionnaire from around the country, including demographic information, behavioral factors, driving habits, environmental issues, and crash factors. These were then subject to statistical analysis to identify any relationship to injury severity. After risk factors for injury severity were identified, intervention methods were developed and provided to the relevant authorities and academics for use in injury prevention and control. For the study to establish an information collection model for injury severity in road traffic accidents, the experiences of the first year of study were summarized. Opinions from policymakers, emergency care personnel, and academics were integrated to develop models for the timely collection of data on injury severity in road traffic accidents. After the practice of the available methods, the results were compared to evaluate the data quality and feasibility, as well as the influence on the executive units. Injury severity in road traffic accidents was analyzed in addition to completing the first nationwide estimate of timely injury severity information for road traffic accidents in Taiwan. The evaluation results were provided to the relevant authorities and academics for use in promoting transportation safety. Furthermore, demonstrative analyses using police crash data and hospital data garnered significant positive attention. |
